Hub City Theatre Company is thrilled to announce its first-ever Shakespeare in the Park, a special outdoor production in partnership with the Jackson-Madison County Library. This exciting event, set to take place in the beautiful Rotary Park downtown, promises an enchanting evening of live theater right in the heart of downtown Jackson.
Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors is one of Shakespeare’s wildest and most fast-paced comedies. It tells the story of two sets of identical twins, separated at birth but with the same names, who end up in the same city years later - completely unaware of each other’s existence. What follows is a whirlwind of mistaken identities, mix-ups, and confusion as the two Antipholuses and their twin servants, the Dromios, get caught up in a series of hilarious situations. The more the characters try to make sense of things, the deeper they dig themselves into chaos. But in the end, everything comes together in a way that only Shakespeare could pull off—reunions, laughter, and a little bit of magic.
One of our company’s values is “Build Welcoming Spaces: Create theatre that is accessible, approachable, and personal”. One way we aim to do that with this show is to make it completely free to the public, with a suggested donation of just $10. Whether you’re a Shakespeare aficionado or a first-time theatergoer, this event is the perfect opportunity to experience the magic of the Bard in a casual, community-oriented setting. Grab your lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets, and enjoy a night of entertainment beneath the stars!
This is a big moment for us, and we couldn’t be more grateful to the Friends of the Library and the Shakespeare Circle for their incredible support as sponsors of the show. Their generosity helps ensure that this event will not only be free, but also of the highest quality possible. But we’re not done yet. We’re still looking for additional sponsors who want to be part of this exciting community project.
Putting on a production of this scale requires resources, time, and dedication, and we’re seeking businesses and individuals who believe in the power of art to help make it happen. If you’re interested in sponsoring Shakespeare in the Park, there are plenty of ways to get involved, whether it’s through a monetary donation or an in-kind contribution. Your support will allow us to continue offering free performances that bring people together and enrich our local culture.
This event is about more than just a performance. It’s about creating a space where families, friends, and neighbors can gather, enjoy live theater, and experience the timeless work of William Shakespeare in a beautiful outdoor setting. We’re excited to see how this collaboration with the Jackson-Madison County Library will spark new connections and inspire a love for the arts.
If you or your organization is interested in supporting local arts and bringing Shakespeare to the community, we’d love to hear from you! Send us an email at info@hubcitytheatreco.com to get the process started. Your contribution will directly support the production, ensuring that this event remains free for all attendees while also fostering the arts in Jackson for years to come. Plus there are special benefits given to those who donate at the individual or corporate level!
Make sure to join us at Rotary Park for what promises to be an unforgettable evening. Stay tuned for more behind-the-scenes details on our social media as the rehearsal process begins, and mark your calendars for the weekends of March 28th-30th and April 4th-6th. Whether you're a lifelong lover of Shakespeare or just looking for something fun to do, this event is sure to be a highlight of the season.
We can't wait to see you there!
